FREIGHT TRAFFIC & TRACTION: the unveiling and test runs of the first two Colas Rail Class 47s, 87 022 + 87 028 hauling a rake of new GBRf coal hoppers along the East Coast main line, 47 811 working the Dagenham-Calvert ‘Binliner’, heritage-liveried 37 411 & 37 425 return to traffic for EWS, 20 901 + 20 905 on Lafarge ballast trains from Mountsorrel to Hope cement works, 67 014 working the Sinfin tanks, 60 012 on the Edinburgh ‘Binliner’, 37 038 ventures to Scunthorpe to work a CWR train, 47 237 hauling four RHTT sets from York to Stowmarket, DRS Class 57s on the Anglia autumn ‘water jet’ trains…and the final Class 87 workings in Britain, including the aborted farewell trip.

PASSENGER WORKINGS, RAILTOURS & SPECIALS: Class 20s return to Skegness, 50 049 hauling the ‘Silverlink Swansong’ charter over the Watford DC Lines, Virgin Class 57s ‘top & tailing’ the vintage ‘Queen of Scots’ coaches, 47 802 hauling the blue & grey Cargo D set from Manchester to Brighton, 66 081 rescuing not one but two failed Class 57s on the Penzance-Paddington sleepers, Barrow Hill-Deepcar Class 20 specials, Grand Central HST enters service, 55 022 Royal Scots Grey’s autumn trip to Oban, 37 601 + 37 603 on Pathfinder’s ‘Atomic Harbourmaster’, 40 145 reaches Fort William and Dartmouth….and D1015 Western Champion’s groundbreaking run over the Cambrian route to Aberystwyth.

THERE’S ALSO:  773 205 + 73 209 ‘top & tailing’ a Serco test train at Moorgate underground station, BR blue 33 202 on a FGW HST power car move, 33 025 on the West Highland Line hauling a snowplough to Glenfinnan, D1015 Western Champion hauling a ballast cleaner from Reading to Eastleigh Works, re-painted 73 107 hauling Hastings DEMU vehicles, 20 301 & 20 305 hauling DRS’ newly re-painted Mark 3 charter set from Oxley to Kingmoor, 31 190 + 31 106 making a rare appearance at Glasgow Queen Street…and 37 025 & 37 175 return to action at Bo’ness.
