FORTHCOMING RELEASE…
TRACTION
2009 Part 2
The
next installment in this popular and long-running series is shaping up
well. Very well….except for the fact that we are struggling to get the
programme down to 100 minutes! The six month period from July to
December 2009 saw some remarkable workings and traction developments,
many of which will feature in this forthcoming programme. Among the
workings you can expect to see are…..31 190 on the Boston steel, 47
802 on the Chirk timber, D1015 heading to Scarborough and Blaneau
Ffestiniog….and then hauling redundant china clay tanks from
Quidhampton to Burngullow, 56 311 towing three Bulgaria-bound Class 87s
and 86 401 from Long Marston to Crewe, Virgin Class 57s hauling Class
508 EMU’s to Eastleigh Works, 20 189 + 20 227 on hire to GBRf
delivering new London Underground S stock from Old Dalby to Neasden, 92
017 in Stobart livery, six scrap DBS Class 56s being towed from
Ferrybridge to Crewe, 73 107 returns to the main line, 37 401 + 37 670
venture to Weymouth for FGW, 20 306 bonnet first towing a coach
from Southampton Docks to Eastleigh Works, 66 844 on the Bromley North
branch, 47 727 + 47 739 on the Tilbury to Burton Cemex tanks, 87 701 +
87 702 on hire to GB Railfreight for charter and mail trains, ‘mix
& match’ Class 47 haulage on Colas traffic from Dollands Moor to
Burton and Dagenham, DRS Class 37s and 47s on the temporary
Workington-Maryport passenger shuttles, 20 302 on the West Highland Line
heading for Oban, 47 270 returns to the main line for Hanson Traction,
DB Schenker decimate their Class 60 fleet….and Advenza Freight go
bust. And that’s just a taster of what’s in store! We hope to have
programme 29 in the Traction series available in early March.
NATIONAL
GRID
Recalling
memories of when Class 56s were an everyday sight on MGR coal trains in
Scotland, this WIRED
FOR SOUND cab ride was filmed in October 1999 on board 56 096. The
train is the 7G80 Hunterston to Longannet, which took the Grid on a
104-mile trip across the lowlands of Scotland from the Firth of Clyde to
the Firth of Forth. With 1,150 tonnes of coal in tow, the programme not
only features a fascinating route but is accompanied by a spectacular
soundtrack! The route is as follows - West Kilbride, Saltcoats, Paisley,
Shields Junction, Terminal Junction, Larkfield Junction, Polmadie,
Rutherglen East Junction, Carmyle, Coatbridge Central, Gartsherrie
South and North Junctions, Greenhill Lower Junction, the semaphore-signalled
Carmuirs West and East Junctions, Polmont Junction, Winchburgh Junction,
Dalmeny, the Forth Bridge, North Queensferry, Inverkeithing and
Dunfermline. There, the 56 runs run its train in Townhill Loop before
accessing the scenic 10-mile Longannet branch to the power station.
Sadly, much of this programme is now history – the 56s have long since
finished on Scottish MGR’s and the coal traffic from Hunterston to
Longannet now runs via Alloa.
National
Grid will be digitally re-mastered for enhanced picture quality and will
include around 25 minutes of previously unseen footage as well as an
updated and revised narration from David Maxey. We hope to have this DVD
available towards the end of March.
VHS
TAPES. . . .
As
demand for VHS is now minimal, we have deleted all our titles on tape
which are now available on DVD. Please note that none of the TRACTION
series are available on VHS
, the early years having been covered in our
TRACTION DECADE DVD. We only have limited stocks of the older VHS-only
programmes so you may wish to contact us first regarding availability
before placing an order. Please note that due to the massive increase in
Royal Mail postage costs for items of this size and weight there is an
additional postage & packing charge of £1 per tape. Thus
the total cost of a VHS tape is £17.95.
