Fall and Rise of the 50's
HISTORY
unfolds by the minute in this dramatic and moving account of Laira’s
last three remaining 50s as they embark on a farewell programme that
proved to be the best since the demise of the Deltics. Running on a
parallel theme, the programme simultaneously charts the remarkable progress of
those Class 50s that had entered the world of preservation.
Presented by BR's Area Fleet Manager Geoff Hudson, this programme is a sequel to "Class
50 Finale" and covers the period August 1992 to March 1994.
LAIRA’S TOURING TRIO: are featured on every railtour from the
"Minster Marauder" to the "Terminator", plus 50007
and D400 banking Taw Valley up Exeter bank and D400 & D433 on a test
run with red TPOs. Exclusive behind-
the-scenes footage from Laira includes the transformation of 50033 to
D433 and its subsequent restoration for the NRM, the return of 50050 Fearless, and the famous Laira line-ups & fire-ups.
Detailed coverage of the farewell programme includes the historic
return of D400 and D433 to Glasgow, large logo 50s to St Ives, the last
rites at Paddington and the handover ceremony of Glorious to the NRM.

Ramillies, Rodney & Triumph, the return of 50149, Valiant
&
Thunderer team up again on the East Lancs, Rodney stranded in Alresford
High Street, Hood hauling a record-breaking 15 coaches on the Severn
Valley, Triumph on clay hoods, Indomitable escaping Booth’s scrap yard
and the re-dedications of Hood, Superb and Defiance.
