50's - The Final Years
ALL 50
Class 50s in 50 minutes! A comprehensive lineside record of the ‘Hoovers’
at work on the BR main line during the 5-year period 1987-1991. Moving
through the years, the programme vividly illustrates the many changes
that took place to the operational territories and the duties of the
class, and contains a superb variety of workings...
• Paddington-Oxford & Newbury services
• Chiltern Line workings
• West Country passenger duties
• Waterloo-Exeter services
• Inter City passenger turns
• DCWA Civil Engineers traffic
• West Country freight
• Railtours, Newspapers & Parcels
Many notable workings are included - the last booked Thames &
Chiltern double-headers, the last booked 50 over the Chiltern route,
Southampton diversions, 50046 on Bardon aggregates, 50002 on
Freightliners, 50007 on the Windsor & Eton branch, 50149 on china clay duties and 50032
& 50026 at King’s Cross.
The programme also features 1991 celebrity repaint locos Valiant,
Thunderer, Hood and D400 in action. The demise of the class is also
captured in some remarkable scenes filmed at Old Oak Common as
Collingwood and Courageous are dragged onto the depot’s famous
turntable and put to the cutter’s torch. Undignified, but sadly all
part of the story.
“This video sets out to show every single Class 50,
and this it does in
style. A memorable video.” RAIL Magazine
